The Arbor Consort now has two seasons per year. During the
first part of the year (January - September)
we rehearse and perform Renaissance a capella choral music, and perform
at venues like the Michigan Renaissance
Festival. As a singer you are obliged
to attend
rehearsals, perform, purchase music as needed (which we have available), and make a Renaissance costume (for which have assistance).
Our second season is a season of holiday, Christmas, and Hanukkah music,
performed a capella. We perform in downtown Ann Arbor for the Main Street
Merchants Association and the State Street Merchants Association, and
finish the season on the Sunday before Christmas by singing for patients,
families, and staff at the University of Michigan Hospitals. As a singer
you are obliged to attend rehearsals, perform, purchase music as needed
(which we have available for sale), and make a Victorian costume (for
which have assistance).
Each season is a separate event, and singing in any one season does
not obligate you to sing for any other season, but we hope you will
enjoy our company and the music we make enough to come back and sing
with us regularly. In our Renaissance and Holiday seasons, particularly,
there are many opportunities to perform. We are a group that is ideal
for someone who loves to get up in front of people and make music for
them.
Comments from singers
Here are some comments from singers, pulled from our end-of-season
evaluation:
-
"It was a remarkable, satisfying season! I’m still
wowed by it."
-
"Wild horses couldn’t keep me away."
-
"Enjoy the challenge and the being in the middle of
the luscious sounds we make—why don’t we float away?"
-
"I love the music we choose and the fact that it challenges
me."
-
"Thank you all again for making me feel so welcome to the
group. It has been a wonderful experience."
How to join
If this sounds like something you would like to do, all you need to
do is come to the first rehearsal for a season. At this rehearsal, we
will answer any questions, give you more information, and schedule a
brief audition. You do not
need to prepare an audition piece. This is mostly to give us
an opportunity to hear your voice and assess your skills for placement.
We do audition and accept new members
throughout the year. We will be meeting at Calvary United Methodist
Church, 1415 Miller Road, Ann Arbor.
